Beginning with humble roots in 1980, Martha’s Table was originally a safe place for children to receive free sandwiches and food after school. It gradually grew to address the additional needs of the community through its onsite day-care programs and expanded food distribution programs. Over the years, Martha's Table has undergone significant changes—much in part to the inspirational leadership that has sought innovative new ways to reach the city’s most vulnerable residents. Today, Martha's Table seeks to level the playing field for individuals of all socioeconomic backgrounds through its food, education and opportunity programs that serve over 18,000 DC residents a year.
